The process of getting OMVIC licence is divided broadly into 2 parts, which are often not clear when we are getting licenced for the first time. That’s what I experienced when I did the whole process to get licensed. Therefore I thought let me create some useful content which can help future applicants.

- After passing the exam, registration with OMVIC.

Steps to get OMVIC Licence

- Download Registration Form of Georgian College

If you are the first time applicant of OMVIC Licence, first you need to complete the course and pass the exam.
Call 705. 722.1513 or 1.877.722.1513 if you want to talk to concern person from Gerogian College.
- Fill the Registration Form & Fax it
Fill all the details including the payment.
You will be charged $260 if you are a domestic student or $520 if you are an international student.
Fax the fully filled form to 705-722-1524 - Download course manual & prepare for exam

However, you will receive the physical book via courier after making the payment for registration.
You need to read carefully each and every chapter.
Do not be overconfident.
Although the exam is an open book exam, if you are not aware about the topics, you may find hard time during exam, and eventually fail.
The course is interesting and informative. So take one hundred percent interest in learning from the course.
You will also receive the list of Test Centres.
After you are done with the course manual and confident for test, select the nearest centre to you from list, call the phone number given there and fix the Test Date & Time.

- Appear for Open Book Test
When you go for the test, take following things with you:
-OMVIC Automotive Certification Course manual (the book)
-One piece of photo identification (such as driver’s licence, passport or health card).
-One other piece of identification. - Get your background check done
Visit Mybackcheck
Create an account for individual.
Apply for the background check. Simply follow the instructions on screen.
You will need to make a payment of approximately CAD 55 as a fee for background check. You can pay online.
This will create a background check report, which you can download or print. It may take less or more time, depending on their processing times. I am not sure about the exact time. For me it was quick.
This report is one of those mandatory documents required to get OMVIC licence.

Once you pass the test, you will receive the Georgian College Student ID, which you need to provide while filling the application.
There are few details in this form which needs to be filled by the dealership you are working with.
Note: This application needs to be sent in original, sending a copy in fax will NOT be accepted. Send by mail or courier. You can even go in person and submit it. This is the last step!

How does OMVIC Licence look like
As soon as you get registered with OMVIC, you get an email confirmation. After that you can check online on omvic website, whether your name appears in their database, along with your dealership name or not.
After a couple of days, you will receive a great quality laminated frame with your name and issue date, which you can proudly show to your customers. You need to keep this at your workplace, such that it is visible.
Come on, you have earned it. Show it!
You will also receive a small ATM Card sized card from OMVIC which you need to carry all the time (in your wallet) while dealing with customers. This is also somewhat cool. Keep it safe in wallet. Have that feel good factor!
